A motorcycle has no body panels hiding anything. Every bolt, weld, spoke and cable is visible, which is why a bike takes longer to detail properly than a car twice its size — and why the results are so obvious when it is done right.

We do not pressure wash motorcycles

This is the most common way bikes get ruined by cleaning. Pressure forces water past wheel and steering-head bearing seals, into electrical connectors, into the instrument cluster, and through the chain’s O-rings, flushing out the grease that keeps the chain alive. The damage does not show up that day — it shows up as a notchy steering head or a chain that is finished a few thousand miles early. Everything we do on a bike is hand wash, low pressure and controlled rinsing.

Chrome, aluminum and anodized are three different metals

Treating them the same is how finishes get wrecked. Chrome takes a proper metal polish and will come back from a lot, including light surface rust on older pieces. Polished aluminum is softer, scratches more easily, and needs a finer polish and more passes. Anodized parts must not be polished at all — anodizing is a surface layer, and abrasive polish cuts through it and leaves a permanent dull patch that can only be fixed by re-anodizing.

Exhaust headers are their own problem. The blue-gold discoloration near the head is oxidation from heat cycling. Some of it comes off with the right product and patience; some of it is permanent, and we will tell you which you have rather than burning an hour on it.

Wheels, spokes and chain service

Wheels are the most labor-intensive part of a bike. Brake dust is corrosive and bakes on, and a spoked wheel means every spoke gets done by hand. On a chain-drive bike, cleaning is only half of it — the chain gets degreased with an O-ring-safe product, dried, and re-lubed properly. A clean, dry, unlubricated chain is worse off than a dirty one.

Leather, windshields and matte paint

Saddlebags, seats and touring bags need conditioning, not just cleaning; Georgia sun dries leather out and cracks it. Windshields are acrylic or polycarbonate, not glass — ammonia-based glass cleaner causes crazing, that fine spiderweb of cracks, and they scratch when wiped dry.

Matte and satin paint, increasingly common on modern bikes, must never be waxed or polished. Wax fills the texture that makes matte look matte and leaves shiny patches you cannot undo. Matte finishes get a matte-specific sealant only. Tell us if your bike is matte and we will treat it correctly.

How long it takes

A thorough motorcycle detail runs 2 to 4 hours depending on the bike. A full dresser with hard bags, heavy chrome and spoked wheels sits at the top of that range.
